Exclusive interview with couchserfer [mary gerasimenko]
This week I interviewed my facebook friend, Marcus Mayers, 24, Germany, who has broad and awesome Couchsurfing experience. But wait.. what is couchserfing?
"The website Couchsurfing.com, a site that connects travelers with friendly people who have extra bedrooms and open them up to visitors at no cost. There are 250 countries with more than 2,000,000 couchsurfers worldwide"
Q: How long are you in couchserfing community? How many times have you hosted someone or have been hosted?
Marcus: Been in cs for 4+ years and about 20 times
Q: Wow.. That's a long time. Do you usually host (have people stay on your couch) or surf (stay on other peoples)?
M: i typically surf couches as opposed to hosting. ideally it's a pay-it-forward system but you know, that's not for me
Q: Were you scared before your first couch surf?
M: i wasn't, i can't even say i was ever apprehensive
Q: What was your worst couch surfing experience?
M: i've never had a bad cs experience. the worst that has happened is not being able to get in touch with a host. and that was 2 a.m. and i slept in the local park. But it's ok
Q: Will you give a piece of advice or some tips for me as a potential couchserfer?
M: always travel with gifts from your country and also it's important to upload your userpic and photos and make sure you gave a lot of information about yourself
Q Finally, what's the best thing in couchserfing?
M: i wouldnt trade these experiences for all the money in hollywood. i was thinkin about that whole thing and really the best thing in the world was getting to know all the people and that's priceless, really
