Survey: Public is going to become obese

The health of our population is characterized as critical. Healthy lifestyle, which means healthy physical and mental health, may be one of the treasures nowdays.

Unfortunately, according to the survey, only 14 % lead a healthy lifestyle and a majority, about 60 %, do not follow healthy rules.
However, from the research, we can see that 36, 7 % of respondents strongly agree that it is necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle and 56, 9 % of adults agree that healthy living is important.

Citizens living in the modern society may not lead a healthy lifestyle, because they might be stuck with heavy work and everyday routine. Also, a high cost of proper nutrition, gyms and other recreational facilities could cause this problem. Seven out of ten respondents (72%) said that «to lead a healthy life style is very expensive».

Nonetheless, people do not refuse themselves to spend money on such things as cigarettes and alcohol. The majority admitted that they smoke every day and drink alcohol about once a weak. Overall, 63,8 % are smokers: 48% of men and 20% of women. Much higher level is among 18-25 year-olds.

The overall picture is not very inspiring, 18+ year-old population shows little indication of a healthy lifestyle: young women and young men smoke; one in ten men and one in forty women drink alcohol every day; one-third of the adult population may become obese; the majority does not exercise enough.

Hence, the emphasis on healthy lifestyle should start as soon as possible. Parents must urge their children to eat more vegetables, fruits, juices, whole meal and wholegrain foods.

Summarizing, leading a healthy lifestyle is a conscious decision. One can ignore that and lead a life that exposes a big amount of health hazards. It is important to recognize that a healthy living ensures a longer life, a life free of disease and complications.
